The world is on alert as female-led, comedy-led and animal-led blockbusters head to cinemas in the coming months.
1. Captain Marvel – March 8, 2019
Marvel’s first female-led superhero movie starring Brie Larson is a decade in the making. Journalist and film critic, Rich Cline believes that this film is undoubtedly the most anticipated film by the public during March and April. Although he argues “the critics aren’t as thrilled, as Marvel's film output has become a bit stuck in a cycle, trapped by the expectations a plot that feels more TV episodic than cinematic”.
2. Shazam! - April 5, 2019
The DCEU finally delivered with Aquaman and they’ll be looking to keep that momentum going with their next outing. Shazam! escapes the darkness of previous films by offering a more humorous take on a DC superhero. The movie will mark the first film appearance of the character since 1941 and will star Zachary Levi.
3. Dumbo – March 29, 2019
The legendary baby elephant finally gets the live-action remake we never knew we wanted as Dumbo returns to screens decades after his first appearance. The film is directed by Tim Burton and is expected to be one of Disney’s biggest releases of 2019.
