We've finally got the trailer and now the final season of Game of Thrones is just weeks away.

So ahead of the beginning of the end, CTRL ALT looks at the most interesting changes from popular fantasy novels to screens, both big and small (So expect spoilers!)

Game of Thrones – Tyrion doesn’t have a nose?

Back in Season 2, during the defence of King’s Landing, Tyrion Lannister earns himself a nasty gash on his face. Yet in the books he actually gets his nose cut off during the incident.

The Hunger Games – Haymitch falls off the stage

In Suzanne Collins’ first book, before the reaping, Haymitch, mentor to Katniss and Peeta in the games, is so drunk he falls off the stage. Possibly too comic relief on screen during an emotional scene.

During The Goblet of Fire, Harry is pounced on by Dumbledore, shaking him about his entry in the Triwizard Cup. Potterheads emphasise Dumbledore calmly asks Harry in the book.

Game of Thrones – Minor character issue

George R.R. Martin’s point-of-view chapters for characters, means there’s no knowing of any conversations between Varys and Littlefinger or Margaery and Olenna Tyrell, characters bringing wit and scheming to Westeros.

The show has brought in lots of readers to the Ice and Fire books, with around 90 million global sales. Neil Wood at Waterstones says that “films normally help book sales, but Game of Thrones has had a massive impact.”

Harry Potter – The snap

Harry snaps the elder wand in the final movie and flings it in the Hogwarts lake. In J.K Rowling’s novel the wizard promises to return it to Dumbledore’s tomb so it’s allusive power will end when he eventually dies.

So if the wait for the final season of Game of Thrones feels too long, spare a thought for the loyal series book fans who haven't seen new material since 2011.
