Man - up and be a feminist!

In 2019, only a few men claim to be feminist, while others don't even realise they are. But being a feminist is to be in favour of equality between men and women.

With International Women's Day around the corner and a series of personal events, I am questioning whether or not toxic masculinity and misogynists still surround the world. Are men finally ready to join the feminist fight?

Gender equality, by its definition, should be a responsibility for both genders. For many years the term feminism has long been associated with misandry, while its meaning can merely be resumed as the theory of political, economic and social equality of sexes.

Men have privileges, it's a fact. Don't be ashamed, just be aware of it. But let's face it, women won't be able to succeed in turning things around by themselves, and they shouldn't. While many think this is only a women issue, it'll surprise you how coming out of the feminist closet can benefit both genders. I was surprised to read the latest figures for men's mental health issues.

The percentage of male suicide has increased by 24% in the last 15 years. The pressure on men is real, their masculinity and how people expect them to behave is a real factor. Feminism and gender equality tend to permit men to express their feelings freely.

On the other hand, joining the feminism movement will necessarily improve your status within society as a whole. Moreover, it could make your dating life a lot easier. According to some studies conducted at Rutgers University, in the US, considering your partner as equal will stabilise your relationship and can even improve your sexual satisfaction.

In other words, men have a lot to gain by joining the fight. as for now, I can only see positives answer to the question of why should men be feminist.
